The Friends of the Norwell Public Library is a volunteer, non-profit group of library supporters who work together to raise and give financial assistance to the Norwell Public Library so that it may improve its services, resources and role in the community. The Friends operate the Fred-the-Shed, which is a volunteer-staffed donated sale site for gently used books, CDs and DVDs. Fred is open May through September – daily hours are posted on the Shed and on the Friends bulletin board in the Library foyer. The Friends provide funding for museum passes, children’s and adult programs.
The Friends host various social and fundraising events to finance such library programs as dinner and a movie, Suzanne Mahar’s gardening talk, the owl program, puppeteers, story tellers, etc. Fundraisers in the past have included gift baskets, art auctions, gingerbread house raffles, and the spring 2010 Antique Appraisal Day with Skinner Auctioneers and Appraisers.

Membership in the Friends is open to all. Monthly meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm (excluding July and August).
